Volunteer as a Tutor / Mentor
Over the years, the Creative Player Foundation has been proud to bring together volunteers, students, families, and community partners in meaningful ways. On December 21st we celebrated the Holiday Season with our After School Kids and their families. Invest Collegiate Transform generously allowed us to use their facility to host over 100 guests. Legion Brewery donated all of the delicious food and thanks to our sponsors, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and SPX, we were able to give every child in our after school program a new backpack for school with their name personalized on it and a t-shirt!
The students had a great time using the indoor slide, the photo op we had set up for them, and lots of dancing and games.
What has become an annual field trip for our after school girls did not disappoint again this year! Due to some construction taking place Uptown, we even had the opportunity to experience some more of the Uptown Charlotte Holiday Traditions. Not only did the girls get a Meet & Greet with some of the ballerinas and a tour of backstage, but before all of that, they got to see the Bearstein Bears Symphony and the Gingerbread Experience at the Ritz-Carlton. It was a truly magical day for our After School Girls, all thanks to Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and the Charlotte Ballet.
On May 7th the Kennedy Middle School ESL students Executive Director Daniel Araujo spoke with a few weeks ago attended a field trip to the Creative Player Learning Center. Daniel spoke with the kids about how they need to apply themselves in the classroom in order to succeed in school and in life. After talking with the kids for a while, he ran them through some soccer drills and then they played a friendly match. This field trip was a great follow up to the in-school session he ran with them earlier in the year and the kids really had a great time. We love having the opportunity to bring students to our facility.
Through a partnership with CMPD officers, K9 Morty and his handler, CSI Buhr, came to visit our after school kids on Monday & Thursday. Morty is an off-lead Human Remains Detection Canine trained to work on and off lead, to detect various ranges of human remains. His job is to assist CMPD Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators in searching for evidence and victims. Morty is originally from Colombia, South America.
